Coupons and fast food restaurants?

I'm sorry if this is a dumb question, but I've never used a coupon at a fast food restaurant. Is it okay to use a coupon at the drive-thru or is it best to go inside to redeem the coupon? Also, at the drive-thru, do you tell them you have a coupon when you place the order or do you wait until you get to the pay window?

Where I live, it's best to tell them at the drive thru window. Just say ';I have a coupon for a ..........';. That way your payment amount is right at the window. I use them all the time when I do eat that stuff.
Tell them you have a coupon. Often there is a coupon code often on the bottom give them that number if you can find it.
